1st Annual WPA Golf Tournament
The 1st Annual WPA Golf Tournament, held Sept. 25 at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course, was a great success. Organizers say 32 four-person teams participated in the tournament, and thousands of dollars were raised for the Association's Benevolent Fund.
First place team was Reyna and Reed Attorneys with a score of 53 (19) under par. Second place was Brashears Homes; third place went to Moody, Crow and Darling Attorneys. Those teams received trophies plus rounds of golf for four at Ridgewood Country Club, Twin Rivers Golf Course and Cottonwood Creek Golf Course, respectively. WPA presented gift certificates to Cottonwood Creek Golf Course’s Clubhouse to the 15th, 20th and 25th place teams.
The last place team One Cop-Three Not consisting of Gary and Melett Harrison and Billy and Brandon Paulson received the Dead Ass Last trophy (a small trophy with a horse’s rear on it) and four passes to go bowling. The D.A.L. team shot an honest score of 80.
Special thanks to WPA volunteers Joann Barrington, President Anne Cyr, Mike Alston, Scott Holt, Chad Ashworth, Chris Raup, and members of the Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Association of McLennan County for providing food for the event. Also, Kenny Duron and the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course staff; Ridgewood Country Club, Cottonwood Creek and Twin Rivers Golf Courses for the rounds of golf donated; and volunteers Patrick Russell, Rhonda Spradlin, James Castillo, Randy Roberts and Jim Smith for their assistance in obtaining golf participants, hole sponsors and door prizes.
